This piece is corollary to “ Not if, but When”, published on January 20,2026, where it was opined that ‘POTUS Trump’s foreign policy has put global geopolitics in a tailspin, which not only confirmed the existence of strong ideological foundations but also purely opportunistic and self-generated, if not helter-skelter, tendencies’. It got vindicated only 24 hours later when Mr. Trump made a marathon speech at Davos Economic Forum on Wednesday January 21, where Global leadership in including the EU & NATO Allies heard him with amazement and hurt egos, mostly being former colonial empires and well developed proud European Nations.
Trump devoted a big portion of his speech to Greenland. After a lengthy critique of Denmark, which he claimed was too weak to protect Greenland, Trump repeated his key position on the territory. “We need it for strategic national security and international security. This enormous, unsecured island is actually part of North America. That’s our territory,” he said. Trump further asserted, "I don't have to use force. I don't want to use force. I won't use force,--This would greatly enhance the security of the entire NATO alliance,--We want strong allies, not seriously weakened ones." At the same time, he framed US control of Greenland as essential to global security and it was therefore essential for European leaders to turn the self-governing island over to US control.“I’m seeking immediate negotiations once again to discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States,” Trump said.
Trump repeatedly returned to tariffs as a central tool of leverage, describing them as a way to get other countries to change behavior."Instead of raising taxes on domestic producers, we're lowering them and raising tariffs on foreign nations," Trump said. When discussing energy policy, particularly renewable power, Trump dismissed green policies as "the Green New Scam" in reference to the EU's Green New Deal and called it "perhaps the greatest hoax in history." He also accused China of profiting from renewable energy by manufacturing windmills for export while relying on other energy sources at home. Trump said that parts of Europe has declined economically and politically — without naming specific cities or countries. "Certain places in Europe are not even recognizable anymore," he said, adding that the changes were "not in a positive way."He blamed European governments for weakening themselves through energy and economic policy. At the same time, he positioned the US as the central force in the global economy and security. "The USA is the economic engine on the planet," he said. "When America booms, the entire world booms."
Speaking about Venezuela’s economy and oil sector, Trump said the country had suffered a sharp decline because of past policies under socialist leaders like Nicolas Maduro and the late Hugo Chavez. Trump has taken an active interest in Venezuela’s governance since a January 3 military operation to abduct Maduro and transport him to the US to face criminal charges. He has since confirmed that the US has extracted 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela following Maduro’s ouster. Trump also responded to remarks from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who had earlier encouraged world leaders to prepare for a future without US leadership and warned that the “great powers” of the world appeared to be abandoning “even the pretence of rules and values for the unhindered pursuit of their power”. Trump replied, “Canada gets a lot of freebies from us,--They should be grateful. But they’re not. I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t so grateful. Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.” Trump repeatedly boasted of US’ unmatched Military and technological superiority. "I'm working every day to ensure our military is very powerful. Our borders are very strong. And above all, our economy is strong because national security requires economic security and economic prosperity," he said.

Although POTUS Trump is following a pure ultra nationalistic approach, it surely threatens the viability of the ‘Security and Economic Architecture’, which have been mutually beneficial for the US led European Allies since the end of WW-II. The European and other allies’ push back resonated sooner than later with the Canadian Prime Minister making an epic speech underscoring that “if we are not on the table(together), we are definitely on the menu”. And the EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen vowed that “Europe's response to US President Donald Trump's repeated threats on Greenland and tariffs will be "unflinching, united and proportional."Subsequently, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that he had arrived at a “framework of a future deal” with respect to claiming Greenland, after meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. The details of that framework remain unknown, but Trump agreed to lift the tariffs he had threatened to slap on European allies starting February 1. Only time will tell whether Trump’s controversial “Gaza Peace Board” as an alternative to UNO and his chauvinistic policies will contribute towards making the World safer and more prosperous or his new ‘World Disorder’ will deprive US of its global leadership role with or without a Third Great World War. Fingers crossed as the other Great Global Players and Alliance are also making great strides in all fields to challenge US’ bullheadedness.
